a major draw for tourists visiting Avignon.
The gracious city sits on the banks of the Rhone River.
It’s possible to climb high up on the palace’s ramparts, looking down
on the people below
Much of the religious art of the period in which popes lived here
is housed nearby in the Petit Palace Museum.
With wide avenues and spacious squares,
Avignon is a center of the arts and music,
and a city of plentiful parks.
