Kathy and I saw mountains rising from an exquisite green lake in Eric Rohmer’s 1970 film, “Claire’s Knee.”
We knew we had to visit and did on our honeymoon a year later.
It was a place of fairy tale castles
and tree-lined shores.
But we wouldn’t return for 41 years.
That was in 2012. This June we are back again.
Don’t visit Lake Annecy without taking at least the one-hour boat tour.
It costs a little less than $20 and is well worth it.
Take time, too, to explore the city of Annecy.
Its old town dates back to the Middle Ages.
Its canals reflect city life.
Its swans strut.
And there are many places
to just sit and watch.

Your Photos bring back so many happy memories. Annecy is one of our favorite places, sometimes we would even drive there just to have dinner on a warm summer evening. My last visit there was very different because I took a French friend to the hospital in the Annecy to discuss further chemo treatments. This was a rare insight into how French medicine operates. The doctors were all very inclusive because I tried to speak French. After a very difficult morning we went for a lovely lunch at the Palace de Menthon hotel on the lake. We enjoyed the sun in the outdoor restaurant with a beautiful view of the lake. I think this speaks a lot to the French way of life. No news is so bad that it can’t be made better by enjoying a lovely lunch with friends.

There’s reason for the term ‘comfort food.’ I wonder where that term originated.
