A Lobster Lunch and More on Hyannis Harbor

Most people visit Cape Cod for its beautiful beaches.

But there is a lot more.

Today we visited Hyannis Inner Harbor after dropping Devon for a sleepover at a friend’s.

It’s a busy place with tour and fishing boats, big

and small.

Commercial fishing boats.

Even strange gulls.

There’s a walk along the water

past artist ‘shanties’

exhibiting the work of different local artists on different days.

There was a folk singer.

And we stopped for a fabulous lunch at Spanky’s clam shack. Great food,

great view and good prices (a lobster dinner was $28, a draft beer $4.95)

Then we walked through the Hyannis Village Green

with tips to other destinations on future visits.

This is a lively town with lots going on.

And an international flavor, like this bilinqual gospel church

and an Eastern European market. We’ll be back.

Perhaps you have found a seaside New England version of your beloved south of France.

  The point of slow lane travel is find both beauty and surprise in small things. For an easily distracted person like me, it takes discipline. Seeing things through a lens helps. The South of France? No. But the Cape holds much beauty and the water carries a special calm.
