Adventurer's Index, France, Galleries, Uncategorized Arles: City of Roman Arches, Provencal Windows & Doors Posted on March 1, 2014March 7, 2018Author Slowlanefrance On the banks of the Rhone River, Arles once was a fortified city and remains the gateway to France’s Camargue region. Its Roman arena dates back to the 1st century. It has been restored and is now home to events such as the annual Easter weekend bullfight. But Arles is also a thoroughly Provencal town, with the warm mix of blues, reds and yellows for which the countryside is well known. We stopped by for a visit this weekend, exploring the standing Picasso exhibit at its Musee Reattu and a marvelous photo exhibit that will remain through June. We also walked through the city’s narrow streets, stopping frequently to take pictures.
